Basic Geography The Virgin Islands has 9 Main Islands and some 75 Islets; ( explored by Christopher Columbus ) The current status is it’s a territory. The Capital is Charlotte Amalie in St.Thomas 125 Sq Mile ( Land Area ) 136 Sq Mile ( Total Area ) Climate: Subtropical – Tempered by Easterly trade Winds, Relatively Low Humidity & Little Seasonal temperature. Natural Resources: Sun | Sand | Sea | Surf

Society Languages:English is widely spoken but people speak Spanish and French is also spoken Ethnicity_ West Indians 74% US Mainland 13% Puerto Rican 5% Other 8% Race_ Black 80% White 15% Spanish Origin 14% Other 5%

History The Danish West Indies Consisted of the Caribbean islands St Thomas, St John and St Croix. The colony was sold to the U.S in 1917, since Which time the 3 Islands been known as the United States Virgin Islands.

Important Issues Global Warming & Environmental Problems are the important issues occurring in the V.I Virgin Island rely on Tourism

What Can Happen ? Global Warming: Rising Coast lines- Will kill 90% Coral Reefs. This will cause animals to try to adapt to new environments and if animals cant function right they will go extinct. Increasing Temperature Affects-This will affect the ocean ecosystems; Spread diseases and will cause massive Coral bleaching. Coral Provides: Food | Shelter | Breeding Tourism Mainly is because of the all natural Coral Reefs. So if people won’t come to Scuba dive and Snorkel. Money ($) will go down.

Also… Environmental Issues: -Cause Intense Hurricanes -Limited Natural Fresh Water Resources ( Having strained water will make this important resource expensive )

Solutions Create renewable energy- Solar Power Plant shaded trees will cause 40% Cooling Costs. 13 Million lbs of Carbon Dioxide will decrease more when switching to Fluorescent Bulbs. Low Emission Boat Motors Be a Green tag Suscriber
