2. Issue #1: VTCL school Have been funding the education of 30 tribal students for several years now. (show update for the past year) Approve funding for the ‘08-’09 school year: –In past, $3000/year, in two installments of $1500. –Last year, due to weak dollar, last installment was changed to $1875 –For the coming year, we have been asked to give $3750 (or twice $1875) for the year.

3. Issue #2: SVYM/WAH projects Project #1: VTTRC -two-year teacher training program -Currently, they want to support 20 total students (10 per year) -The average student’s age is 17- 20 years. Many have graduated from VTCL/SVYM program. -They assess through State Board exams, internal assessments, employment statistics, practice teaching internships. -Currently the program has 5 students funded. ASHA-SD has approved funding for 7 students. This leaves 8 more students to be funded.. Government sponsors 18,000, student spends 5,000. NEEDED: Rs. 20,000 per student, or Rs. 160000 total.

Breakdown for the 5-day workshop: Food for 12 persons for 5 days @ Rs 100 per day Rs. 6000.00 Accomodation at Mysore for 5 days @ Rs. 200 per day Rs. 12000.00 TRavel expenses @ Rs. 500 per person Rs. 6000.00 Resource person fees @ Rs. 250 per day for 12 persons Rs. 15000.00 Other training materials and misc expenses Rs. 6000.00 TOTAL Rs. 45000.00 Note: This budget should be increased 20% for increasing costs AND adjusted for weaker dollar. Also, this money might be used to procure the van instead, because the van is not being made available to them anymore. How will they sustain this? At this point, project is too undefined to say.

Melli’s call last night with Dr. Balu ASHA Boston should raise money for the van (Rs. 10lakhs – will have a more detailed breakdown later Focus on only 18 schools in HD Kote taluk initially We will be a “real” partner in this They have already piloted the program for a couple of months using a temporary van, with success.
