LOW LATITUDES Tropical Climates Tropical Wet: avg. temp of 80°F; rains nearly every day – Ex. Hawaii Tropical Wet & Dry: Summers w/ hi temperatures and rain; winters are cooler & dry – Ex: Florida

MID LATITUDES MEDITERRANEAN: hot, dry summers; cool, rainy winters; GOOD FOR FARMING! – EX: southern California MARINE WEST COAST: by OCEANS, rains year-round; temperature stays pretty much cool/warm EX: Oregon/Western Washington

MID LATITUDES HUMID SUBTROPICAL: long, humid summers; cool, mild winters; EASTERN COAST OF CONTINENTS! – Ex: Our part of TEXAS!!! HUMID CONTINENTAL: four seasons with extremely different temperatures – EX: New York, Nebraska

HIGH LATITUDES SUBARCTIC: cool summers; EXTREMELY cold winters; usually below zero – EX: Alaska TUNDRA: extremely cold all the time; has permafrost (ground stays frozen) – EX: Northern Canadian Islands

DRY Semiarid: hot summers; cold winters; less than 16 inches of precipitation; INTERIOR OF CONTINENTS – EX: West Texas Arid: less than 10 inches of precipitation; HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HEAT – EX: Sahara Desert, Eastern Washington

HIGHLANDS Generally cold due to elevation; short, cool summers; longer, cold winters. Some places can have warm summers. – EX: Mountains in Eastern California
