Law on Commune Health Care § 1-1. (County responsibilities regarding health care) The individual communes shall provide the necessary health services for all individuals residing either permanently or temporarily in that county. § 1-2. (The goal of health services) Commune health care shall promote good health and well- being as well as adequate social and environmental conditions, and aim to prevent and treat disease, injury or bodily defect. It shall provide information and stimulate interest in the active role of the individual and community in promoting well-being and good health.

Law on Commune Health Care § 1-3. (Responsibilities/tasks of health care services) County health services shall include the following: 1. Promote good health and prevent disease, injury or bodily defect. These efforts are currently organized as: A. Living environment and preservation of health B. Health center activities C. School Health Services D. Informational services In order to fulfill the above-mentioned responsibilities/tasks, the county shall provide the following associated services: 1. General practitioner services, also including emergengy ward services 2. Physical therapy services 3. Nursing services, also including health center nursing and at-home nursing. 4. Mid-wife services

Law on Commune Health Care Chap. 4a. Living Environment and Preservation of Health Stipulations concerning the living environment and preservation of health include those factors in the environment that may directly or indirectly influence an individual’s state of health. This includes, amongst other things biological, chemical, physical and social environmental factors.

Regulations on School Health Services § 1. Area of application Regulations pertaining to preventative health services for school- aged children and adolescents who attend school as covered by the law on primary education and the law on secondary education. § 2. Aim Schools, as named in § 1, shall offer health services in accordance with these regulations. School health services shall work to promote the students’ general health and prevent disease, injury or bodily defect. School health services shall – in cooperation with home, school and other community support services – work to identify and solve health problems that are especially associated with school children.

Law on Commune Health Care § 2-2. (A child’s right to health care check-ups) Children have the right to receive necessary health care, also in the form of health care check-ups in the commune in which they riside, be it permanently or temporarily. Parents are obligated to contribute to the child’s participation in health care check-ups.

Regulations on School Health Services § 1. Aim The aim of the regulation is to contribute to the effort of providing an environment in kindergartens, schools and other institutions pertaining to § 2 that promotes good health, well- being, good social and environmental conditions as well as to prevent disease and injury.
