CHE 170 Packet 1 - 9 A few notes…. Before Fall 2009, this course used to be known as CHE 105; you may still see it referred to as such on some materials. The prerequisite for this course is (ACT math score of 21) OR (College Algebra with C or better) OR (CHE 130 OR CHE 140 with a grade of C or better) OR (CHE 160 with a grade of P) OR (Appropriate score on math or chemistry placement exam). If you do not meet this, you must drop the course! If you think you need to take a course to prepare to take CHE 170, you may prefer to take CHE 160 first as it will address specifically the skills you will need for this class. You will need a lot of study time for this class – at least eight hours a week! Learning is NOT a passive activity! Please utilize the services on our campus like the Math Lab’s free tutoring!

A few notes…. Be sure to read all of the things that have been distributed and to do all the assignments asked for! Remember to do everything listed on the First Day Assignments sheet. Let’s take a little on-line tour: Blackboard: http://elearning.kctcs.edu/ http://elearning.kctcs.edu/ http://elearning.kctcs.edu/ Our Main Web-site: http://legacy.jefferson.kctcs.edu/users/kaya.muller/CHE170/che170index.htm http://legacy.jefferson.kctcs.edu/users/kaya.muller/CHE170 /che170index.htm http://legacy.jefferson.kctcs.edu/users/kaya.muller/CHE170/che170index.htm MasteringChemistry: http://www.pearsonmylabandmastering.com http http://www.pearsonmylabandmastering.com http://www.masteringchemistry.com http://www.pearsonmylabandmastering.com http http://www.masteringchemistry.com Social Media: http://www.facebook.com/KayasChemistryCorner http://www.facebook.com/KayasChemistryCorner http://www.facebook.com/KayasChemistryCorner CHE 170 Packet 1 - 11

Some last thoughts…. First let’s watch a video… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1HI_I5nqhk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1HI_I5nqhk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1HI_I5nqhk Now, after watching this brief video are you ready to compete? No! And so it is with chemistry. You can not expect yourself to do well on exams if you only watch your instructor do the work. Just like with sports, to do well, practice time must be spent! I know you feel a little overwhelmed, but we can do it! CHE 180 Welcome Packet - 12 Bring it! #WeGotThis
