Word Wall Vocab. Under vocabulary tab in your binder place your word wall handout, and write the following definition. ◦ Rhetoric: the language a writer/speaker uses to persuade an audience. ◦ Counterclaim: a claim made by someone with an opposing opinion on an issue.

Predictions (p.139) You will be reading an article on the reasons for and against selling junk food in vending machines. What can you predict the arguments for and against will be? Complete the block on the top of page 139 to answer this question.

Vending Machines (p.139) Individually, read the article, “Another Study Highlights the Insanity of Selling Junk Food in School Vending Machines” on pages 139-140. Complete the graphic organizer on page 140 to analyze the article.

Violent Video Games (p. 152) In partners, read the two articles called “Failure to Ban Violent Video Games Makes Job Harder for Parents” and “It’s Perverse but It’s Also Pretend” on pages 152-154. Next, complete the chart on page 155 with your partner to determine reasons and evidence from both articles.
