1 Accelerated Math Math Management Software for Ensuring Student Success Sue Hornbach September 18, 2001

2 What Is Accelerated Math? A task-level learning information system (LIS) that provides data on students' task completion, performance, and time-on-task. It combines two technologies: –Objective Tracker Management System - done in the Assignment Book, it automatically tracks student progress on assigned objectives. –Algorithm Problem Generator - using mathematical formulas, AM can generate a large number of different-but-equivalent variations of each learning objective.

3 Getting Started Under your buildings Apps menu, find Management, then Accelerated Math, then Accelerated Math Admin

4 Opening Screen Click once Enter password Click OK

5 Where Should You Go Next? Assignment Book Extended Response Teams & Goals Preferences Reports Students Classes Libraries Preferences Reports Go to School first to set up your classes.

6 Entering Students Click on School Click on Students Students previously entered in the AR program are already entered Use the Add button to add a student - check current students to match information Use the Edit button to edit a student Don’t delete a student

7 Adding a Class Click on the Classes button under School Click Add Type in the name of the class (not the teacher’s name) Type a password for the class Assign a teacher from the list Click OK - click Yes or No for adding more classes But what if the teacher is not on the list???

8 Adding a Teacher In the New Class Dialog box, click the button that says Assign Teacher If it is the first teacher to be added, an information box will be open If there is at least one teacher already added, click New on the button at the bottom of the list Fill in the information requested and click OK The new teacher is now assigned to that class

9 Enrolling a Student Highlight (click on) the desired class Click Enroll from the buttons on the left of the Classes screen A list of students and their current status appears Holding the Ctrl button down while you click names lets you select all names at once Click OK when your student names have been highlighted

10 Clearing Locks For a Student: –School –Students –Students on the menu bar –Clear all locks For a Class: –School –Classes –Classes on the menu bar –Clear all locks What is a lock? For a class, it’s to prevent two people making changes at the same time - it may occur also if there is an interruption of power For a student, it’s if the incorrect password is used

11 Classroom Options Click Classroom Select a class from the list Click OK Go to Assignment Book –First time there it will ask to set up objectives –Follow the wizard based on your needs –Choose the library you want to use –Add the objectives you want to use

12 Assignment Book Assign desired objectives to students –Control and Shift keys can be used to select multiple students and/or objectives

13 Assignment Book Assigned - the objective has been assigned, but no practice has been printed yet for the student Ready to Work - practices or exercises have been printed and scored, but practice mastery criteria have not been met, so more practices or exercises are needed. Working - a practice or exercise has been printed but not scored Ready to Test - practice mastery has been met, it is time to take a test Testing - a test has been printed but not scored Mastered - the objective has been mastered based on the test score - review questions will appear

14 Assignment Book Intervene - the student needs extra help with the objective Diagnosing - a diagnostic test has been printed to test the student without requiring practice requirements first Reviewed - the requirements for the practice, test, and review have been met - the student has finished with the objective Override - objectives have been met out side of Accelerated Math Hold - the teacher put the objective on hold

15 Assignment Book Print button lets you choose questions for these objectives –Practice –Test –Exercise –Diagnostic Test

16 Assignment Book AM keeps track of what you print for whom It won’t let further items be printed if objectives aren’t met The score button prompts you to scan a student’s score Reports –Status of the Class –Diagnostic –TOPS (The Opportunity to Praise a Student)

17 Reports There are many different reports available in each section of Accelerated Reader

18 Go Menu You can get to just about anywhere from the Go Menu on the menu bar.
