We have holidays to remember important dates and people.

Americans celebrate those dates and people during a holiday.

On December 31st, Americans have parties to ring in the new year.

On New Year’s Day, we celebrate a new year and a new life. We wish each other good luck to do better in the new year.

Dr. Martin Luther King is a man that worked for peace and for everyone to take care of each other.

When Dr. King died, people wanted to make a holiday to remember his peaceful work.

In February, we celebrate Abraham Lincoln and George Washington’s birthdays.

They were America’s two greatest Presidents.

Memorial Day honors soldiers that have fought and died in wars.

People wanted to remember what the soldiers had done for them.

Today, Americans spend July 4th celebrating our nation's independence and the freedoms we enjoy as a result.

On July 4, 1776 the Declaration of Independence was signed to declare our freedom as Americans.

Labor Day was created by workers who wanted fair work hours and pay for the jobs they did.

Christopher Columbus thought the world was round and sailed to America to prove it.

Veteran’s Day honors the end of World War II and the hope for peace between people.

Thanksgiving is a celebration where Americans make a big feast to give thanks for the food we have.

Christmas is a joyful holiday where we celebrate the birth and giving.

When people moved to America from Europe, they brought the story of St. Nicholas, or Santa Clause, with them.

It has become a season of giving and receiving presents.
