3 What are your planned biometric applications for your organization? (Identification?/Verification?) 1. Transportation Employees (Federal and others) Primarily VERIFICATION for access control IDENTIFICATION at enrollment 2. Passengers “Trusted Passenger” concept in PL 107-71, ASTA Consideration for other modes of transportation Primarily VERIFICATION for access control IDENTIFICATION at enrollment 3. Surveillance - Terrorist and/or criminal watch lists IDENTIFICATION at chokepoints, wide area?

4 Who do you need to work with (e.g., standard organizations, other gov. agencies, consortiums-BC, etc.)? Standard Organizations – NIST, ANSI,… Evaluation Organizations – Federal & International (NIST, DOD CDTPO, UK CESG,…) Transportation Stakeholders – Port Authority, Carriers (Air, Sea, Rail), Labor Unions?

5 What are your requirements for data interchange and for interoperability? 1. System-wide access for transportation crew (“Universal Access”) 2. Compatible with international travel biometrics standards? 3. Watch list data from law enforcement.

6 What are your requirements for other biometrics standards? Interface (technical) standards – to allow technology evolution Operational (performance) standards – to qualify products

7 With whom do you need to interact (eg., other agencies, among servers, systems, etc. 1. Local transportation facility access control systems 2. Carrier reservations and boarding systems, TSA inspection (checkpoints) 3. Federal and local law enforcement, INS 4. Intelligence Agencies

8 What are your deployment plans? PL 107-71 makes biometrics deployment a consideration not a mandate) for TSA Plans being formulated by TSA Go Teams (GT9 – Biometrics) Expect near term pilot projects in all 3 areas
