6 Informative Writing Technique – To provide facts – NOT to convince Compare the informative statement to the argumentative statement… Recent studies about genetically-modified foods indicate that GMOs may cause harm to monarch butterfly caterpillars. GMOs are deadly and must be stopped for the future of our children!

7 Informative Writing Tone – Objective (no emotion, no opinion – just the facts) Can you find the objective statement? This is the apartment we live in. It has 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen, and a living room. We have lived here for 12 years. This place might look like nothing special, but since both of my children were born while we lived here, it has a special place in my heart. When we move away, we’re planning to release three hundred cockroaches and two mice, so we can leave the place exactly as we found it. This place does need some repairs, but I’m sure the landlord will be making improvements sometime soon.

14 S-C-C C = citation Tell us your fact (can be a quote or a paraphrased fact). “Many cats are lactose intolerant, so you shouldn’t give them milk.” The first ever cat video was recorded in 1894. “Cats make 100 different sounds, while dogs can make only 10.” Cats can recognize your voice but may choose not to come when they’re called.

This means that cat owners might think they’re giving their cat a healthy treat but could be making their cat feel ill. This shows that the history of the cat video started long before the launch of YouTube. While some people might say this is evidence that cats are more advanced than dogs, one should not forget that animals also communicate with body language. This fact explains why some people have trouble training their cats.
