This project is going to be about our blood that functions and transfers important things in our body. Jade Rotondo
3
There is all kinds of organisms that swim around in our body. These are 4 basic blood groups. Group a- has only the a antigen on red cells Group B- has only the B antigen on red cells Group AB- both A and B antigens on red cells Group O- neither A or B antigens on red cells Jade Rotondo
4
An antigen is a substance that can trigger a immune response. Did you know that antigens can trigger the patient’s immune system to attack the transfused blood? That’s why we need to be careful on blood typing and cross- matching. Jade Rotondo
5
A blood disorder can effect the three components of blood. The three components are red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Anemia is one example of a disorder. Anemia causes fatigue, pale skin, and shortness of breath on exertion. There is a low number of red blood cells. Jade Rotondo
6
Chromosomes are the vehicles of heredity. Chromosomes carry info to code for traits & are inherited from both parents equally. The passing of traits from parents to child is the basis of heredity. A trait is a feature or quality in a person. Jade Rotondo
7
About 1 pint of blood and several small test tubes are collected from each donor. The donation is stored in iced coolers until it’s transported to a Red Cross center or a military hospital. Donated blood is scanned into a computer database, and test tubes are sent for testing. Jade Rotondo
8
Blood transfusion is a medical treatment that replaces blood lost through injury, surgery, or disease. The blood goes through a tube from a bag to an intravenous catheter and into your vein. You may need blood transfusion when you lose too much blood from surgery, an injury, or an illness. Jade Rotondo
9
Blood type tests are done before a person gets a blood transfusion and to also check a pregnant woman’s blood type. An antigen is the marker on the surface of red blood cells. The two most common blood type tests are the ABO and RH tests. Jade Rotondo
10
In conclusion I learned about blood type tests, blood diseases, blood transfusion, & blood works. Blood donation is the one I find interesting. Blood buddies are important to our bodies and our health. Jade Rotondo
