2 Proposals O different guises O document written by a person, business, or agency who wishes to perform a job or solve a problem for another person, business, or agency O receive funding or money for the proposed task O all suggest performing or make a request to perform a particular task or project

3 Differences from other technical writing O deal with the future and with things and conditions that do not exist O must be very convincing O convince the reader that there is a situation or problem and O the proposal writer is the best person to solve the problem or repair the situation

4 Checklist: questions to answer O What do I propose to do? O Can I do it? O How do I propose to do it? O Is this possible or feasible? O What evidence can I introduce to demonstrate that what I propose to do will actually get the desired results? O What evidence can I use to convince my reader that my way is the best way to obtain the desired results? O How can I show my ability to do what I propose to do? O How much will it cost me to do the task? O How much shall I charge to perform the task? O What evidence must I show to convince the reader that this cost is acceptable? O Is my time schedule appropriate?

12 Proposal Assignment O It is the end of your senior year. You are excited to start the next chapter in your life and have been dreaming about moving to a new city in a new state. However, in order to convince your parents you are ready for such a big step, you must create a proposal which outlines your plans. O Since you will be supporting yourself financially in every way, you’ll have to carefully consider many of your options and plans in order to develop a proposal that is logical and thorough enough to convince your parents. O You may choose to live anywhere you want. Dream BIG! O You are financially independent, which means you are paying your bills. The only thing that can be paid for from an outside source is school. Otherwise, even if this isn’t your reality, for this project you will be considered financially independent. O All facts and figures must be calculated and researched. You can look on the internet, talk to people (parents/ friends) who might pay for some of these items. You don’t NEED all these items: choose ones that pertain to your life and your circumstances.
