1
Overview of Research Activities of ARICFR, Team CR7 2004-2005 M. Palenova – team leader V. Korotkov S. Ripa E. Zubkova, All-Russian Research Institute of Silviculture and Mechanization of Forestry
2
Research Activities Review and comparison of silvicultural systems Provides the base-line data for the case studies Application of existing models to concepts of sustainability Application of silvicultural models in two case studies Analysis and identification of optimal natural resource management strategies
3
Review and comparison of silvicultural systems Korotkov V.N. published paper Forest management planning and forest inventory in the Russian Federation in the period of transition for the International workshop "Forest Management Planning Status and Changes after Political and Economical Transformation in Central Europe", Białowieża, Poland, 10 - 12 March 2004 Palenova M.M. prepared review of Russian silvicultural systems How we will compare different silvicultural systems and finalise review?
4
Provides the base-line data for the case studies Database of forest inventory data for Chuchloma FMU (Kostroma region), Russkii Les FMU (Moscow region) and other databases were available for all participants of the project We prepared databases for EFISCEN: growth tables, ages of maturity (cuttings), rules of forest management, volume of intermediate and final cuttings, AAC, etc.
5
Continuation of analysis of spatially-distributed forest inventory and prognostic databases using ForRus (analytical interface), GIS Topol, Common GIS M. Palenova prepared draft of the paperExploratory interactive analysis of spatio-temporal forecasting data for evaluation of forest biodiversity - attempt find integral indexes of biodiversity with using powerful instruments: ForRus and CommonGIS
6
Indexes for integral evaluation of forest biodiversity Number of tree species on subcompartment (vydel) Layer structure (1-layer stand, 2-layer stand and 3-layer stand) The share of dominant tree species volume in a tree layer Relative age of dominant tree species (ratio age of tree and age of maturity) Presence of zonal edificator tree species in tree layer and undergrowth layer
7
Using CommonGIS for integral evaluation of forest biodiversity
8
Integral evaluation of forest biodiversity Protection scenario Legal practice scenario Illegal practice scenario Evaluation of biodiversity: Dark – good Light – bad
9
Prognosis of area of tree stand without and with shrub and herb layers (20 steps = 100 years) We must take into account in the forest models not only tree stand but and shrub layer and herb cover
