3 Air Line Pilots Association, International April 16-17, 2013 WATS 2013 ► Aviation University Outreach Program is currently in place at:  Embry-Riddle – Daytona Beach, Prescott  University of North Dakota  Southern Illinois University  Parks College at St. Louis University  Purdue University

4 Air Line Pilots Association, International April 16-17, 2013 WATS 2013 ► Program Goals:  Bridge the gap between academia and employment  Motivate and foster professionalism and decision- making ► Program Components:  Classroom visits and student forums  ACE Club  Mentoring

5 Air Line Pilots Association, International April 16-17, 2013 WATS 2013 ► Challenges  Transition jobs have decreased and with it, industry experience among new entrants  Expediting the maturation process  Logistics  Industry buy-in  Industry is understandably nervous about partnering with a labor union  Industry often prefers its own turf  It costs money

6 Air Line Pilots Association, International April 16-17, 2013 WATS 2013 ► Guest Speakers include:  ALPA pilot volunteers, who speak in numerous classes and give practical examples  ALPA subject matter experts  Industry stakeholders ► Kennedy Space Center’s Shuttle Weather Officer ► Delta Air Lines’ Pilot Hiring Manager ► Human Factors & Training Expert

7 Air Line Pilots Association, International April 16-17, 2013 WATS 2013 ► Aviation University Outreach Program holds day-long sessions  Visits by ALPA pilots to numerous aviation classes, usually culminating in an evening forum  ALPA pilots provide an industry overview and answer questions related to their airline industry segment

8 Air Line Pilots Association, International April 16-17, 2013 WATS 2013 ► ACE Clubs  On-campus, student-led, ALPA sponsored  Clubs meet twice a month  Indirect mentoring via scenario-based presentations  1 st meeting – led by students  2 nd meeting – led by industry volunteers, with subject matter expertise

9 Air Line Pilots Association, International April 16-17, 2013 WATS 2013 ► Individual Mentoring  Each participating flight student receives is placed in contact with a full time line pilot who is available to them throughout their academic career.  This program is in conjunction with the bi- annual campus visits previously described.  Currently in place at Purdue
