Present Setup of IMD Communication * SINGLE PATH VIA GROUP OF NODES. * DELAY DUE TO MULTIPLE HOPS COVERAGE. * MODE OF COMMUNICATION: TP/TELEX/TELGRAMS/HFRT COSTLY. * OLD AND OBSOLETE TECHNOLOGY. 85 385

Need for Modernization DEPT. OF TELECOM IS WITHDRAWING TP/TELEX LINKS AND HAS ALREADY WITHDRAWN FROM MANY PLACES. DATA THROUGH TELEGRAMS REACHING VERY LATE. HFRT (HIGH FREQUENCY RADIO TELEPHONY) IS OBSOLETE TECHNOLOGY AND WORLD WIDE BEING REPLACED WITH LATEST TECHNOLOGIES AVAILABLE LIKE SMS THROUGH MOBILE AND EMAIL SERVICES. VPN IS LATEST TECHNOLOGY WITH ADVANTAGES OF CONNECTIVITY BETWEEN ANY TO ANY IN COMPARISON TO DEDICATED LINKS WHICH IS CONNECTIVITY BETWEEN ONLY TWO ASSIGNED LOCATIONS. VPN LINKS ARE SECURED AND COST EFFECTIVE LINKS. MOBILE DATA TERMINALS WITH ADDITIONAL DIAL UP MODEM IN BUILT UTILIZES DATA EXCHANGE THROUGH SMS, EMAIL AND DIAL UP CONNECTION. SMS AND EMAIL UTILIZES SIMULTANEOUS TRANSMISSION TO MULTI NODES THUS DATA AVAILABILITY AT AMSS AND RTH ARE VERY FAST. AT PRESENT IVRS SYSTEM IS AVAILABLE ONLY IN FOUR METROS. AS A PUBLIC WEATHER SERVICE IVRS SYSTEMS ARE REQUIRED TO BE AVAILABLE AT ALL MET CENTRES. AS PER WMO REQUIREMENTS RTH IS REQUIRED TO EXCHANGE BINARY DATA IN BINARY UNIVERSAL FORM (BUFR) FORMAT, IMAGERIES AND WEB PAGES WHICH ARE AT PRESENT NOT SUPPORTED BY OUR EXISTING SYSTEM. REQUIREMENT OF AMSS SYSTEM AT NAGPUR AND AMSS MODERNIZATION AT GUWAHATI.

1.SIMULTANEOUS EXCHANGE OF DATA WITH MULTIPLE NODES 2. REAL TIME DATA EXCHANGE. CATEGORY-I 85 OBSERVATORIES WITH MULTIPLE OBSERVATIONAL FACILITIES. CATEGORY-II 385 OBSERVATORIES WITH LIMITED OBSERVATIONAL FACILITIES. CATEGORY-III 26 REMOTE OBSERVATORIES IN MOUNTAIN, DESERT AND OTHER INACCESSIBLE AREAS.
