Vasarely’s life He was born as Gy ő z ő Vásárhelyi in 1908 in Pécs.

Studies After the secondary school, he enrolled for Budapest University, where he took up medical studies. Inspired by the anatomy lectures he joined Sándor Bortnyik’s workshop. Advertising tender After he had won a competition of designing advertising posters he left Hungary and settled down in Paris in 1930 working as a graphic artist at advertising agencies. During this period he developed the basic characteristics of his art.

Golden period of his art The most famous works were created during the period labeled as Black-white, Crystal- and Line.

Crystal period The compositions of the works from the Crystal period are characterized by the colors of light reflected on the prism.

60’s In the 60’s he experimented with squares, hexagons, and then octagons, which created the basis of his arts.

Line period During the Line period he was interested in the relationship of the parallels and movements regularly applying only one pair of colors, or the contrast of black-white.
