18. What does consequence mean? Means: Something that happens naturally after an action or behavior. Here are some examples: 1. Child argues there is no homework tonight. 4. Child is bossy with friends. 3. Child cheats in playing with friends. 2. Child spends allowance foolishly. The next day they will have to face the teacher and peers. There is no money for the newly released video game Friends will start to stay away.

19. What does punishment mean? Means: mental and/or physical pain which takes place after someone has broken a rule at home, in the community or school 3. Loss of Recess 1. Scolding/Yelling 2. Name on the board or writing/copying sentences

20. Question: Would a teacher whispering to a student privately and then giving the student time to think about his/her choice (action) be a punishment or consequence? At Estrella Vista all punishments are gone. We use the Make Your Day Citizenship Program. With Make Your Day when a student interferes with the learning, safety or well-being of another student he/she is allowed to think about their choice. This is called going to Step. 23. Points Each student has the ability to make their day. In order to make your day you need to earn points. Earning Points 1.You begin earning points the moment you leave the house in the morning. 2.You earn points every time you do what is expected. 3.You earn points every time you try your best. During Points you will decide if you are tattling or if you have a concern Tattling-Tale vs Concern Tattling Tattling: telling a parent, teacher, etc., about something bad or wrong that another child has done so that the child gets punished Many times a student tattles because he/she wants to hurt the other student. Tattling is a threat to a person’s well-being. Concern Concern: when a person is genuinely worried about a friend’s learning, safety or well-being. When you are concerned about a friend or student you talk to that person in a kind way in order to find a way to help.

25. Points Practice Voicing Concerns It is important to practice voicing concerns. Here is an example of how to state a concern. “It interfered with my (learning/safety/well-being) when you ______________and I asked you to stop. Response: “Accept” or “Don’t Accept”. If the student does not accept then we “split the difference” in points
