Speed vs. Time Graphs
2
What does a Speed v. Time graph show?
Shows how the speed (or velocity) of an object is changing over a given period of time.
3
What does a horizontal line mean?
A horizontal line means that the object is moving at a constant speed. Draw the distance v. time graph as well!
4
What does a sloped line mean?
A sloped line means that the objects speed is changing over time, or accelerating. A negative slope means the object is decelerating, or slowing down. Draw the distance v. time graph as well!
5
What is slope equal to? The slope of the line is equal to the acceleration of the object. Which object is the image to the right has the greatest acceleration?
6
What if my graph is in the negative quadrant?
This means that the object is coming back to the origin.
7
How do I calculate the distance traveled?
The distance traveled is equal to the area under the curve. What was the distance traveled from this graph?
9
Summary Write a two to three sentence summary of your notes.
10
Left Side Activity Then draw the appropriate distance v. time graph to go with this speed v. time graph.
