Ottawa Regional Heritage Fairs Project Guidelines and Assessment

Guidelines for Creating Projects All projects must have a Canadian theme An individual, a group may complete a project, however only one individual per project may be chosen to attend the Provincial or National fairs Projects may be done in either official languages of Canada Students must be able to provide written research undertaken to develop the project

Projects may take many forms: 3 Dimensional Projects and Displays Performances Creative Writing Multimedia Displays

3 Dimensional Projects and Displays Models Posters Maps Collections Dimensions of projects may not exceed 80 cm in depth, 150 cm in width and 100 cm in height

Performances Music Drama Dance These should be presented live or on video.

Creative Writing Short stories Poetry Diaries Dialogues

Multimedia Displays Electronic projects –Powerpoint presentations –Web pages –Video performance Students must provide their own equipement.

Questions to ask when selecting a topic –What am I curious about? –What is everyone doing? –Current course topic, past topic, one yet to come –Well known, obscure or unique? –Broad breadth or focused? –What information is available? –What are my choices –How does the topic match the type? –Will this be a group or an individual project?

Dates to remember Register with Regional Fair Committee by January 31st 2008 Send results of local fair to Regional Fair Committee by March 30th 2008 Ottawa Regional Historica Heritage Fair: April 9th, 2008at Canadian War Museum Historica Provincial Fair: May 14 to 18 in Ottawa Historica National Fair: July 7 to 14, 2007 in Victoria, British Columbia

Special Prizes and Awards School will receive a participation prize to give to all participants at the school fair. All participants in the Ottawa Regional Fair earn a certificate and a medal The Laurier Lapierre medal is awarded to students who have displayed exceptional enthusiasm The Local History Award is given to a project about local history and is accompanied by a cash prize graciously donated by the Ottawa Historical Society. The military award is given to a project dealing strictly with military history and is accompanied by a cash prize graciously donated by Mr. Cliff Scott. There may also be awards for projects abouts explorers and First Nations and aborigine culture
