2 Secondary Education Primary Education Nursery(not compulsory) Start school at the age of 3 or 4 Start primary school at the age 5 Start secondary school at the age of 11

3 Many British children start school at the age of 3 or 4 if there is a play school near their house. These schools are nursery and there are not compulsory. Children sing, draw and play different games.

4 Compulsory education begins at the age of 5, when children go to primary school. Primary school subjects: Art, Drama, English, Geography, History, Maths, etc.

5 Children start secondary school at the age of 11. All children study the same 12 subjects. When students are 14 they can choose the subjects they like.

6 The school year begins in September. The lessons last 40-45 minutes.

7 There are three terms in a school year. When the term is over, schoolchildren have holidays: Christmas holidays - 2 weeks, Easter holidays — 2 weeks, Summer holidays — 6 weeks.

8 British pupils wear a school uniform. Boys wear a shirt and tie, dark trousers and dark-coloured pullover. Girls wear a white blouse with dark skirt and dark pullover with school badges.
