How many of you love to eat cheese, meat, ice cream or drink milk? Did you ever wonder where these products came from?

Well if you said cattle you’re on the right track.

After this lesson you will be able to: Identify the origin/history of concerning cattle breeds in TX. Identify physical characteristics and breed characteristics of cattle in TX. Determine if breeds mentioned are British, American, or Continental Complete handout and a short quiz at the end of the lesson that relates to breeds traits, and characteristics. As well as sample products that come from cattle. (ie: McDonalds hamburgers)

At this time discuss with your neighbor any relevant information that you know on cattle. (i.e.: Breeds, uses, etc.)

Discuss in your small group and write down what you think a trait is. What traits do you think are important in identifying cattle breeds?

After your in-depth discussion on traits, compare your ideas with the actual definition: A Trait is: a distinguishing characteristic within a specific breed of cattle.
