Complete courses to develop maths students into young mathematicians Wondermaths Illuminate Access to Mathematics

Wondermaths For gifted mathematicians aged from 8 to 11 years. Develops mathematical thinking with open and exploratory problems. A mix of games, puzzles and mathematical investigation.

Wondermaths: Structure Full teacher’s guide with detailed session breakdown and notes. Student workbook generates a complete record for the student to keep. 10 sessions of approx. 90 mins. (plus an extensive extra project session on fractal geometry). – Starter problem/puzzle – Main Activity – Take away puzzle to extend the work away from school

Wondermaths: Format One Teacher Guide Ten student workbooks Access to the wondermaths website of support materials Dice, counters, 24- game and target maths cards Packed in a tough plastic storage box. Add on packs of 10 student workbooks available. We can make the complete course available through your MLE/VLE by direct upload.

Wondermaths: Sessions 1: Using numbers 2: Getting to know the web 3: Sticky stamps 4: The maths circus 5: Algebra 6: Board games from around the world 7: Polyhedra 8: Jumping frogs 9: Miss the Ones dice game 10: Code breaking 11: Fractals project – extension activity

Illuminate The same format and structure as Wondermaths but for gifted mathematicians aged from 11 to 16 years. Develops young mathematicians by supporting a detailed engagement with mathematical structure and mathematical proof. CD Rom for teacher presentations. Fully tested in ordinary school environments.

Illuminate: Sessions 1Imagine 2Pythagoras and proof 3Proving Pythagoras 4Constructing roots 5Winning ways 6Trisections 7Gaussian sums 8Group theory 9Big hands 10Three puzzles 11Fractals project – extension activity

Access to Mathematics For students who can be excellent mathematicians, but who are new to learning English. Develop technical mathematical vocabulary in English while learning the maths. Structured diagrammatic worked examples and exercises. Target age range 13-16 years. Very low language pre-test to assess maths needs. Standard language post test for validation and final assessment.

Access to Mathematics: Format Teacher guide and notes with student tracking and assessment materials. 110 page student workbook for the complete course. Supporting web site with interactive activities. Boxed as teacher guide plus 10 student workbooks with add-on packs available. Also suitable for formatting for upload to MLE/VLE solutions.

Access to Mathematics: Sessions 52 different topics on 2/3 sides worksheets under the headings: Calculations Numbers and the number system Equations, formulae and identities Sequences, functions and graphs Geometrical reasoning Transformations and coordinates Measures and construction Probability Statistics Skills Non-specialist teacher support is expected, so the materials are designed for student self teaching with some administrative support. Help sheets on English vocabulary Pre-test and post-test
