Blogging Described While all kinds of blogs exist on the Net, most are personal or journalistic. Most blogs are individual but group blogs are also possible. Blogs are easily linked and cross-linked to create larger on-line communities. Blogs offer a communication medium that is more structured than an e-mail list and more focused than a discussion board. Ideally a journal writer considers new ideas while connecting to what is known. (Hull, 2003) While all kinds of blogs exist on the Net, most are personal or journalistic. Blogging Described Blogs are not really journalism. It is more about sharing and managing information. (Hobgood, 2003) While email, discussion boards and listservs all have similar sharing potential for the classroom, they are transient, they are fleeting and discarded. A blog builds on knowledge and in that way can encourage scaffolding. Blogs are not really journalism. It is more about sharing and managing information. Blogging for Teaching and Learning. Blogs are useful teaching and learning tools because they provide a space for students to reflect and publish their thoughts and understandings. (Ferdig and Trammell, 2004). Publication (also) offers the opportunity for feedback, which, in turn, scaffolds a learner in his or her quest for knowledge construction. Many students agree that course blogs has helped them to better understand course topics. Blogs for Teaching and Learning con’t Blogs are an individual’s learning space. Blogs structure are defined by the individual not by a moderator with topic-based discussions. Self-publishing encourages ownership and responsibility on the part of the students, if they know they are writing for a real audience. Blogs are an individual’s learning space.
