IDEAS What is my reason for writing? Did I answer the prompt? Is my story focused? Is it easy to read? Did I include important details?

Organization Helps the reader follow the story in an order that makes sense Did I “HOOK” the reader? Tell the story in a logical order Stay focused on the main idea Include a great closing that leaves the reader with a thought

Sentence Fluency Write with a rhythm Begin sentences in different ways Vary sentence length Is it easy to read aloud?

Word Choice Create pictures with words Show, don’t tell Use vivid and unique words Avoid overuse of common words (there, and, is, was…)

VOICE Does my writing have personality? Show feelings and thoughts Be the main character in your composition Does this sound like me? Show enthusiasm!

Conventions Did I use correct punctuation? How about capital letters for proper nouns? Did I proofread for correct spelling and grammar? Is my paper easy to read?
