+ First Approach: Aligning the two different grade levels Scope and sequence chart at the end of the book Green box in the unit planner Charts in beginning of book have a game correlation chart/ Game chart in the game book is also helpful Teach the Math Message together Have one group work with you while the other group is working on their math boxes from the previous day, then switch Teach whole group units then differentiate when they are working with you Teach the same concept and extend when you are able to to the older students

+ Sample Alignment 3 rd grade 4.1 (Multiples of Equal Group) 4 th grade 3.2 (Multiplication Facts Math Messages: Multiples, Counting Whole Group: Multiplication Practice, Looking at Multiplication Chart and noticing patterns 4 th grade group (teacher) Looking for patterns, Math Boxes 3 rd grade group (teacher) Number stories with Multiplication chart MJ page 79 4 th grade group alone: Fact triangle practice 3 rd grade group alone: Readiness activities

+ Approach two: Groups (3 groups) Do Math Messages together as whole group (pick one) Math fluency practice whole group (Mad Minute) Broke them into 3 groups based on ability One group is with teacher Give one group something to do independently (math boxes, mountain math, focus skill, etc. One group is playing math games, everyday math online, etc.

16
+ Advice from teachers teaching multi-age classrooms "Teach a 1st grade lesson while 2nd graders do their Math Boxes and play math games. Then switch the two groups." "Do 2 different lessons with the grades. Do the Mental Math together, but then move the different grades into their individual lessons. The younger group will get a lesson first, then the other grade. I had red and green cups on the pod groups. The students would ask their peers for help, but if they still needed assistance, they would turn their red cup to the one on top. This let me know that when I finished with the other group, I needed to check in with those groups first."
17
+ Apply some things you have learned Take a few minutes to plan a lesson. Decide which approach you think would work the best for your classroom Use one of the templates to plan out one lesson We will share in 20 minutes
18
+ Wrapping up Go back to google docs and answer the second question Any other questions?
