Parent/School - communication At the end of the school day for an informal chat in the playground. Teacher not available before school. Home/School diary Email After school appointment Open evenings – Autumn, Spring & Summer terms End of year reports Please inform the school if your child is being collected by another adult or provide a note in the home school diary.

Topics - Autumn 1 – I am Warrior – History based Autumn 2 – Burps, Bottoms and Bile – Science based Spring 1 – Misty Mountain Sierra – Geography based Spring 2 – Playlist – Music based Summer 1 – Traders and Raiders – History based Summer 2 – Potions – Science based All National Curriculum subjects covered through these topics

Maths Teaching for Mastery for all – no setting/ scaffold learning for pupils needing support with a concept/ extension through questioning Textbooks – using the mastery teaching approach from Singapore, created specifically for children living in the UK. This approach will build on the and promote the current Mathematics teaching in the school, which was highly commended by Ofsted. Maths Parent Workshop – 19 th Oct - 6:30pm -20 th Oct – 9:30am -22 nd Oct – 1:45pm No longer have Fluency Friday - all lessons include intelligent practice to develop mental agility in mathematics Daily Counting

Reading - Book Banding – Children will be assessed by teacher and new levels allocated. Individual reading – Children should read every night as a part of their homework. Library books can also be read. Reading challenge – Global Reading Challenge Children to read around the world. Passport to log every 10 minutes spent reading with an adult. Passport to be signed to show they have achieved that. Children can change books from 8.20 in the library. Access from the playground. Housepoints awarded for reading record books which have 3 signed reads per week.

Homework - Homework is now Topic based Overview is given out half termly Homework books are given back on a Friday for Homework to be completed. Homework is due in on Wednesday but can be handed in after the weekend. Homework should be 1 hour and the homework should reflect this. Homework should also include learning spellings, reading and maths fluency – Arithmetic Focus.

Swimming - Every Wednesday Afternoon. Children to have a swimming hat in their house colours and can be purchased at the uniform sale. Packed lunch – Please do not pack in swimming bag. Please remove earring prior to swimming. Last group may be slightly late back to school.

Spelling - As Policy related to pattern being taught Combination of pattern words, end of Year expectation word and incorrect words Weekly Spelling Focus: Children to be given a spelling pattern as a focus every week – This should be in conjunction with the teaching from the Support for Spelling sessions. Children will be given 15 words to learn each week. End of Year spelling expectations. Spellings given out on a Thursday and tested the following Thursday.

Miscellaneous Assessment without Levels – all year groups are now moving to new assessment system introduced last year. –Workshops 24 th September 2:15pm and 6:30pm Library – volunteers needed to work in library during the school day. Please contact Miss Dempster Uniform – no trainers including Vans or Nike air force 1 PE Kit - If children are not able to take part in PE a written letter from parents/guardian is required. Children who do not have their PE kit, they will not be able take part in the lesson.
