5  Teaching for Mastery for all – no setting/ scaffold learning for pupils needing support with a concept/ extension through questioning  Textbooks – using the mastery teaching approach from Singapore, created specifically for children living in the UK.  This approach will build on and promote the current Mathematics teaching in the school, which was highly commended by Ofsted.  Maths Parent Workshop ◦ 19 th Oct - 6:30pm -20 th Oct – 9:30am -22 nd Oct – 1:45pm  No longer have Fluency Friday - all lessons include intelligent practice to develop mental agility in mathematics  Daily Counting

6  This term we will follow the same format as last year - Half termly topic based in homework books  Spellings tested on a Monday – results and new words handed out on Tuesday.  Spelling ◦ Yr3 10 words weekly ◦ Yr4 15 words weekly ◦ Yr5 15 words weekly ◦ Yr6 20 words weekly  Reading Yr3/4/5 three times per week  Arithmetic Focus

7  As Policy related to pattern being taught  Combination of pattern words, end of Year expectation word and incorrect words in books  High expectations  Cursive handwriting in all books  Regular handwriting sessions

8  Questioning children around their book is just as important as reading with them  Sign the reading record whenever you read with your child  Housepoints awarded every Friday for children that have read 3 or more times in one week  Don’t forget to remind your child to change their book in the library  Library is open from 8:30 – 8:45 access from the playground

9  Assessment without Levels – all year groups are now moving to new assessment system introduced last year. ◦ Workshops 24 th September 2:15pm and 6:30pm  Library – volunteers needed to work in library during the school day. Please contact Miss Dempster  Uniform – no trainers including Vans or Nike air force 1  PE Kit - If children are not able to take part in PE a written letter from parents/guardian is required. Children who do not have their PE kit, will not be able take part in the lesson.

10  Stationery is provided for all children in Year 3 so there is no requirement to bring a pencil case.  Parent Helpers should contact class teacher regarding any help they are able to give.  Home – School diaries & Reading Records for main communication
