The Building of the Pyramids The pyramids were designed to protect the pharaoh’s body and keep possessions for the afterlife Clothing, weapons, furniture, and jewelry The pyramids were built with many people including farmers during the summer months Workers cut granite and limestone blocks from quarries Blocks of stone were then placed on barges and floated down the Nile to the building site Once unloaded, the blocks were pulled up ramps and dragged into place in the pyramid
