Accessing the Internet: Going Online There are a number of methods to access the Internet. Dial-up access connects users to the Internet through a modem and a telephone line. Digital subscriber line (DSL) is a high-speed online connection that requires the use of a special external modem with telephone lines. (continued) Satellite access requires a satellite dish in addition to a phone line and modem for an Internet connection. Satellite for high-speed downloading Phone line and modem for uploading Fiber-optic service (FiOS) provides extremely fast Internet access through fiber-optic lines that run directly to users’ homes. A Web page is a document found on a Web site and can include text, graphics, sound, animation, and video. The default page on a Web site is called the home page or index.

Dead links, also known as broken links, are links to documents that have been deleted from the Web.
