6 Clemson University Electric Power Research Association System Description by PSCAD

7 Clemson University Electric Power Research Association System Description by SIMULINK

8 Clemson University Electric Power Research Association Fault Analysis 1. Normal distribution system Single phase A-ground fault (0.1-0.15 sec)Steady State

9 Clemson University Electric Power Research Association Fault Analysis 2. With Induction Motor Single phase A-ground fault (0.1-0.15 sec) Disconnect IM after 0.45 secsDisconnect IM after 0.15 secs

10 Clemson University Electric Power Research Association Fault Analysis 3. With Photovoltaics Single phase A-ground fault ( at 1.8 sec, PV disconnected from system at 1.9 sec)

11 Clemson University Electric Power Research Association Fault Analysis 4. With IM + PV (case 1) Single phase A-ground fault ( at 1.7 sec, 1.73s(2 cycles) open breaker of Motor, 1.8s disconnect PV, 1.9s fault cleared )

12 Clemson University Electric Power Research Association Fault Analysis 4. With IM + PV (case 2) Single phase A-ground fault ( at 1.7 sec, 1.73s open breaker of PV, 1.8s disconnect Motor, 1.9s fault cleared )

13 Clemson University Electric Power Research Association Comparison of Matlab/Simulink and PSCAD

14 Clemson University Electric Power Research Association Conclusions The waveform of the fault current and voltage become worse because of the induction machine. PV generated the harmonics into system, so some filters are needed. During the fault, DG should be tripped before the fault is cleared. The accurate operation and smart control of DG and loads can damp the oscillation and make the system stable.
