PanSALB Achievements 2004/5 – R29,928 Focus AreaObjectivesOutputs NLBsConditions for development of all languages created Technical Committees (TC) in 5 specialist fields of language TC:Standardisation, Spelling and orthography All NLBs attended skills development workshop in methods and setting of rules to standardise languages (July) submitted draft documents on spelling rules and orthography TC:Terminology developmentAll attended workshop in March 05 in principle and practice of terminology and terminography. Ensured same theoretical background when verifying and authenticating terms. All received Guidelines document TC:Literature and mediaRules and criteria for prescribed books in schools compiled Writers associations and reading clubs established TC: ResearchTraining in research methodology

Creative writing for Nama Schools, 4 schools visited to finalise project. N/u – project on recording of the language of the Khomani San speech community on compact discs to teach learners the N/u language – Afrilingo/FNB

Guideline document to all NLBs

PanSALB Achievements 2004/5 – R29,928 Focus AreaObjectivesOutputs Literature and Media Literature and products for previously marginalised languages developed Collaboration with Usiba Writer’s Guild to improve literature Funded adverts on 3 radio stations to promote a newspaper in 3 languages to promote reading and respect for languages Rules and criteria drafted for the evaluation and prescription of books for education purposes Reading clubs established8 Reading clubs established in KZN Research and development Initiate studies and research to create conditions for development of languages Conducted a conference in Sep 2005 to encourage language researchers to share information and stimulate debate on development and promotion of multilingualism – 220 researchers attended
