JHC/Roadmap Third US-Africa Research and Education Collaboration Workshop Abuja, Nigeria, December 13-15, 2004 12 Roadmap 3 years Year 1 Milestones: August 2005 –Memoranda of understanding between African and US universities. –Mutual visits of professors and students between collaborating universities. –Establishment of several projects in the targeted research areas between the collaborating universities. –Seminars conducted during the visits. –Coauthored papers in conferences and journals.

JHC/Roadmap Third US-Africa Research and Education Collaboration Workshop Abuja, Nigeria, December 13-15, 2004 13 Roadmap Year 2 Milestones: August 2006 –Formation of an African university power system research consortium, with US affiliated members. –Development of industry support for the Consortium. –Joint development of courses and materials, accessible remotely. –Development of a consortium website for internal communication and external access. –Dissemination of results to industry via courses and seminars. –Continue publication of coauthored papers in conferences and journals.

JHC/Roadmap Third US-Africa Research and Education Collaboration Workshop Abuja, Nigeria, December 13-15, 2004 14 Roadmap Year 3 Milestones: August 2007 –Double the number of students involved in the joint research program with emphasis on under- represented groups. –Establishment of additional funding for US professors to continue the exchange program. –Development of an African test-bed power system model for technical collaboration. –Development of additional joint technical projects with African industry participation. –Continue publication of coauthored papers in conferences and journals.
