How do crystals break…  A. Cleavage  B. Atoms arrangement  Many facets  Several surfaces  Thin sheets  A. Cleavage  B. Atoms arrangement  Many facets  Several surfaces  Thin sheets

Let’s make a crystal.

The color of crystals  Depends on:  Atoms  Light Some are: Green Beryl Rose Quartz Amethyst  Depends on:  Atoms  Light Some are: Green Beryl Rose Quartz Amethyst

 Atoms come together to form a pattern that repeats.  Crystals come in seven different shapes. 1.Cubic iron 2.Monoclinic 3. Triclinic 4. Barite 5. Tetragonal 6. Hexagonal 7. Triagonal  Atoms come together to form a pattern that repeats.  Crystals come in seven different shapes. 1.Cubic iron 2.Monoclinic 3. Triclinic 4. Barite 5. Tetragonal 6. Hexagonal 7. 7 HOW DO CRYSTALS GROW? HOW DO CRYSTALS GROW?  In cavities between rocks  When cavities become filled the crystal has grown as much as it can.  In cavities between rocks  When cavities become filled the crystal has grown as much as it can.

The fascination of crystals… They spark and attract with their beautiful light.  They come with interesting shapes and colors  Collecting them can be an exciting and challenging experience. 9 What makes up a crystal??  Atoms are building blocks of crystals.  Even the smallest crystal (salt)is made up of millions of atoms.  For every type of crystal there is a different combination of atoms.  Salt for example is composed of sodium and chlorine.
