1. Elementary Principal’s Report December 12, 2011

2. Book Fair Open during the week of Parent-Teacher Conferences (October 24-27) Total Sales - $3,097.76 Scholastic Dollars - $1,828.72 Booster Club bought book from the book fair to get the total sales about $3,000. By selling more than $3,000 worth of books, the schools get 50% in scholastic dollars instead of 40%.

3. Elementary Events The 5 th grade students had visitors from Blue Ox on November 22 nd, and they visited Blue Ox on November 29 th. The Elementary Holiday Concert will be held on December 19 th at 6:00 pm in the old gym. The 5 th and 6 th grade band will perform holiday music for the residents at Prairie Breeze on Tuesday, December 20 th. There will be a 1:00 pm dismissal on December 22 nd. There will be no school from December 23 rd to January 2 nd. The second semester begins on January 3 rd. Nebraska Kids on the Block Bullying presentation for grades K-3 and 4-6 February 8 th Puppet Show FREE to the school district!!

4. Thurston County Spelling Bee Scheduled for February 16 in Pender Make up date February 24 in Pender Multipurpose room Grades 6-8 Top 3 from each grade at each school participate The winner of the Thurston County Spelling Bee qualifies for the State Spelling Bee held in Omaha.

5. Early Childhood Education Cancelled classes Thursday, December 8 and Friday, December 9. No heat The broken part was supposed to be shipped Friday and here Saturday or today, but it was not shipped until today. Heater should be up and running by the end of the day tomorrow. Classes were held today but are cancelled again tomorrow.

6. Teacher Evaluations The first of two formal evaluations for all probationary teachers have been completed. 13 teacher evaluations need to be completed this year, and 7 are done as of today. 11 people…13 evaluations 2 teachers are required to be evaluation twice The other 6 will be completed after the winter break. 2 of those 6 are the second of two formal evaluations for probationary teachers. Informal walk-through observations are conducted several times per week.

8. Sign at the Football Field Should be installed on Wednesday Love Signs planned to be here last Friday, but inclement weather delayed the installation of the sign Should be fully functional by the end of the week

9. Out of Office Thursday, December 16 th after noon. All day Friday, December 17 th.

10. New Gym Floor A new coat of finish will be added to the new gym floor. Recommended after about 6 months. This will cost $2,000. Egan will start this process on December 22 nd and will be finished before the NSAA sports moratorium is over. We may try to refinish the floor every year at this time instead of during the summer.

11. New Gym Bleachers The south bleachers need some work. Bleacher Solutions provided us with a quote. ($4,200) Jack and weld top row. Adjust motors for even running. Loosen sway braces and adjust rolling frames then tighten. Clean and grease all moving parts. Alternate proposal ($3,400) Remove top row of bleachers to allow clearance to court. Move all wall attachment brackets to next lower row and re- attach. Install seats back on bottom row. Since these projects are over $2,500, I plan to meet with the facilities/transportation committee and then get more than one quote if we decide to move forward.

12. Qualified Capital Purpose Undertaking Fund Project overview All duct work will be above false ceiling except in cafeteria, kitchen, and kitchen store room. All exposed duct work would save an estimated $75,000 but would create future house keeping issues. It would also not look as finished as hidden duct work. Air handlers will be installed in current boiler room. Boilers will be installed in Mr. Olin’s current office. A new fire rated wall will be constructed to meet codes. Ductwork will run up the building on the outside just west of fire escape or above current boiler room. There are options for the appearance of this duct work. The area we lovingly refer to as the “doghouse” will be eliminated during this project.

Qualified Capital Purpose Undertaking Fund Plan to put projects out for bid by the first part of January At the January Board of Education meeting, the Board will need to approve the final plans Facilities/Transportation Committee meeting will be held between now and the January meeting with KEI to discuss final plans I have a meeting scheduled with a potential owner’s representative tomorrow morning (see next slide) Bids will be due in February Construction will begin in May

Qualified Capital Purpose Undertaking Fund Bid process will be made up of 4 components Windows – Brian Foxworthy (incite Design Studio) HVAC (Old Gym) – Ed Kucirek Temperature Control Ed Kucirek Combine new building and old building controls HVAC (High School) Hire an Owner’s Representative Owner’s Representative and Ed will coordinate to bid out the pieces of the project Mechanical Electrical Ceilings Fire

15. Community Wellness Center and Football/Track Complex This project is picking up steam! I visited the newly constructed wellness center in Oakland on Friday…VERY impressive. A facility of that nature would be a tremendous asset to the community of Pender A big piece of this project is the football field/track complex. Entire project is about $4 million. The football field/track complex is about $1 to $1.5 million. Donations will play a major role in the construction of these facilities. Donors may specifically state how they would like their donation spent. In other words, someone may choose to donate to the football field/track complex only. This has major implications for the school. Are we willing to support this project?
