3. 3 ITU in brief Leading UN agency for information and communication technologies (ICT) The oldest UN agency (exists since 1865) Global focal point for governments and the private sector. 10. . 5th WTDC – 924 participants and 758 Governments Adopted : HYDERABAD DECLARATION (main conclusions and priorities established by the conference, and reinforcing the political support towards ITUs development mission and strategic objectives). HYDERABAD ACTION PLAN (HAP) (aligns the work of the ITU-D with the objectives and action lines agreed by the WSIS so as to assist developing countries in achieving universal access to ICTs by 2015). ITU-D STRATEGIC PLAN 2012-2014 tobe submitted to ITU-PP10

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION RI-3 - Development of a broadband infrastructure and achievement of regional interconnectivity and universal access With AfDB, ITU assisted East Africa Community Secretariat to do a gap analysis for bankable project investment With the Korean Government, ITU currently implementing Master Plan for wireless broadband access with the World Bank, the CAB project in CAR, Chad and Cameroon and the interconnection between Chad and Cameroon 18

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION R1-4 - Introduction of new digital broadcasting technologies With Korean Gov, Guidelines for Migration from Analogue to Digital Broadcasting Customizing the Guidelines to countries needs and assisting in establishing roadmaps ITU also assisted Uganda, Zambia, Swaziland, Sao Tomé &Principe and Rwanda to review the plans of migration to digital broadcasting 19

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION RI-5 - Implementation of the recommendations of the Connect Africa summit ICT projects were implemented in Malawi, Zambia, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso and Mali where 25 rural communities and 2 centers for Persons with Disabilities were established. 50 schools are being equipped with ICTs and connected to the internet in Gambia, Lesotho, Niger, Sierra Leone and Tanzania Regular Follow up meeting with Partners ( to be completed) 20

22. 22 ITU-IMPACT (International Multilateral Partnership on Cyber Threats) Collaboration Goals Five pillars of the GCA (ITU Global Cybersecurity Agenda) mapped with the tracks identified by IMPACT: Legal Measures - Elaborate strategies for the development of a model cybercrime legislation that is globally applicable and interoperable with existing national and regional legislative measures Technical and Procedural Measures - Develop strategies for the creation of a global framework for watch, warning and incident response to ensure cross-border coordination between new and existing initiatives Organizational Structures - Elaborate global strategies for the creation of appropriate national and regional organizational structures and policies on cybercrime Capacity Building - Develop a global strategy to facilitate human and institutional capacity building to enhance knowledge and know- how across sectors and in all the above-mentioned areas International Cooperation - Propose a framework for a global multi-stakeholder strategy for international cooperation, dialogue and coordination in all the above-mentioned areas

23. 23 CONCLUSION For a successful implementation of the of the WTDC mandate the partnership is a critical factor ITU use its own resources to Assist its Members More resource mobilization is required
