2 THE NIGHT BEFORE!!! Avoid extremely nervous friends Keep Reminding yourself about the test Say something positive about yourself before going to bed. Go to bed fairly early - earlier than usual

3 THE MORNING BEFORE!!! Wake up without hitting the snooze button. Say something positive about yourself and the test you are about to take Take a shower Eat a good breakfast - a little fat/cholesterol is not a bad idea Grab an apple if you have one

4 ON YOUR WAY TO SCHOOL!!! Walk faster - get more vigorous with your travel Keep saying how well you are going to do on the test

5 BEFORE HOMEROOM!!! Go to the bathroom AGAIN avoid nervous friends KEEP FOCUSED ON SUCCESS - EYES ON THE PRIZE

6 BEFORE THE TEST STARTS Practice your relaxation techniques –Positive thoughts –Deep breaths –Constricting/Relaxing your muscles one at a time

7 PART 1 - Reading Comprehension Read the first set of questions before you read the first selection Read the first selection and MARK UP THE PAGE!!! –Underline –Circle –Notes in the margins Repeat for next section Check over your answer and REREAD the questions looking out for “SNAG” words

8 PART 2 - Listening to Write Refocus your mind - deep breaths, etc. Use “shorthand” Pay attention to the reader –Slowing down –Getting louder or softer than usual –Saying transitions –Being more ar-tic-u-late If you start getting behind, skip over what you’re writing and catch up with the reader - you will go back later and fill it in

9 PART 2 - Listening to Write (con’t) Read the questions before writing anything Make sure you have all the notes you need while the “story” is still fresh in your mind Start with the question that you will need the most time on (probably the essay) MAKE SURE TO REVIEW your answers

10 GENERAL TIPS MAKE THE ESSAYS PRETTY –Indent –Have as many paragraphs as bullets (minus 1, plus 2) NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOUR OPINION Remember to copy down AND USE the name of the authors Use the words “In ______’s article/story/piece” MUST HAVE AN INTRODUCTION AND CONCLUSION
