2016 Secondary Admissions
24
Key Dates for Parents 11+ results sent to parents on 14 October National SCAF closing date 31 October National Offer Day 1 March Places to be accepted or refused by 17 March Appeals registered by 13 April Vacant places reallocated by KCC 29 April
25
Action to take now Go online to the KCC information on secondary admissions www.kent.gov.uk/secondaryadmissions www.kent.gov.uk/secondaryadmissions and the online admissions site www.kent.gov.uk/ola Visit school open events Find out more about your preferred schools Talk to other parents
26
Action to take now Get a “feel” for the environment and ethos of each school and involve your child in the decision-making process. Consider travel arrangements. Be realistic – some children are better suited to a grammar school, some are better suited to a non-selective school. Remember that we are here to help. Ensure you complete your SCAF by the deadline of midnight 31 st October!
27
PESE Assessment Decisions Sent to you by October 15 th Based on test result and Headteacher Panel decision For those below the threshold, Headteachers can refer exceptional cases to a Headteacher Appeal Panel for professional consideration We can only do this if we have sufficient evidence to show that the child has underperformed in the test Parents cannot appeal against the decision received on 14 th October. However, you can still name a selective (Grammar) school on your SCAF and then submit a parental appeal for a place at this school in March
28
Parental Appeals You may appeal for a place at any/all of the schools named on your SCAF Be sure to rank the schools on your form in the order of your preference Parental appeals combine information from parents and supporting evidence from school, including evidence of progress and attainment throughout Year 6
29
