Daily Schedule – “A Day in the life of a 5 th grader” Typical Morning 9:00 – 9:15 – Check In / Breakfast / Morning To Dos 9:15 – 9:25 – Good Morning Meeting, Greeting, Schedule 9:25 – 10:45 – Math 10:45 – 11:10 – Read to Self (small group reinforcement) 11:15 – 11:50 – Lunch & Recess

Daily Schedule – “A Day in the life of a 5 th grader” Typical Afternoon 11:55 – 12:45 – ROTATIONS (Science / Social Studies/Math) 12:50 – 1:50 – Specialists 1:50 – 3:30 – Language Arts (Reading & Writing) Afternoon Snack sometime during Language Arts 3:30 – 3:45 – Homework Planners, Wrap Up, Clean Up Study Hall possibly depending on the day 3:45 – Dismissal

Reading Comprehension Skills: character, plot, sequence, inferences, cause & effect, etc. Weekly Independent Reading Logs 5 th grade expectation is 30 minutes, 5 times a week Vocabulary Homework and Quizzes every other week Spelling Pre-test (Mondays) & Post test (Fridays) every other week Challenge Word list Writing Consistent informal writing & larger formal writing projects Narrative, Informational, Argumentative (Persuasive) Essay Current Event summaries and mini presentations Language Arts

Student Planner & Homework Binder should go home every night. Ask to see it. Daily planner completed by student at the end of the day … Homework is NOT posted online Math HW (Purpose: Reinforce or extend skills taught) Often a daily Study Link with extension on back IXL minutes Language Arts (Purpose: Practice your reading) Daily 30 minutes of Independent reading Reading Logs Spelling / Vocabulary (one per week) Late/Incomplete homework assignments result in loss of privileges Homework

Important Things to Remember… Provide a consistent, organized work space at home Set up a consistent homework schedule If they struggle with something, it is okay. Sign the HW and I will check. Practice spelling/vocabulary words with your student as often as possible Practice Math Facts as often as possible if they are not mastered. Note: Homework is typically spot checked and reviewed for completion and understanding, but not taken for a grade. Homework

YouTube is not allowed unless instructed by a teacher for learning purposes. iPad must be turned in at the end of the day.
