$$$ PAYING FOR COLLEGE $$$
3
WHAT WILL IT COST? AM I SAVING ENOUGH? HOW MUCH WILL COLLEGES EXPECT ME TO PAY? WHERE CAN I FIND SCHOLARSHIPS? HOW DO I APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID?
4
If you can, save enough to pay for the worst case scenario. If you use a financial advisor, be sure he/she is well versed in financial aid issues. Whatever you are able to save, DON’T save it in the student’s name. Don’t wait until the last minute!

Discuss your interest in playing college athletics with your coach, counselor and parents. Complete NCAA Eligibility form online at end of junior year (Division I and Division II athletes only). Access the form on the website: www.eligibilitycenter.org and notify your Guidance Counselor to send your transcript to the NCAA. www.eligibilitycenter.org

NCAA Eligibility & Statistics Division I Athletics operates on a sliding scale in terms of eligibility. The lower your GPA, the higher your test scores need to be in order to be eligible to participate. Less than 50% of athletes playing Division I or II receive any athletic aid. The NCAA limits the number of scholarships schools can give in each sport, and many are only partial scholarships. Division II – minimum GPA = 2.0, minimum SAT 820, minimum ACT sum score is 68.
17
REALITY ABOUT COLLEGE ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS More than 100,000 college freshmen will play on NCAA teams next year, and about 30% of those kids will receive athletic scholarships. There are around 7 million student-athletes involved in high school sports. More than a million play football alone, and smaller sports, like soccer, draw over 600,000 teens a year. Yet, at the NCAA Div. I level, college athletics’ biggest arena, only 151,000 students play intercollegiate sports.

Do not dismiss a school because of cost…especially at this point in the college search process!
