CMAs Satellite-based Data Services NMIC, CMA
2
Outline CMAs domestic communication networks CMAs data dissemination services – CMA PCVSAT broadcast – CMA DVB-S broadcast – FENYUNCast
4
NMIC Broadband network Two-way VSAT system VSAT-based broadcasting system Provincial centers 31 City level centers 300 County level centers 2300 CMAs Domestic Communication Networks
6
VSAT-based two-ways system AsiaSat 2, Ku band Data Communicaton: 1 outbound channel, 512kbps 12 inbound channels, including 8*128kbps operational channel, and 4*64Kbps backup channel Backup to the broadband network: collecting observations and products from local weather centers to NMIC 1 hub station, 330 remote station
7
VSAT-based broadcasting system Disseminating data and products from national center (NMIC) to local weather centers, as well as some neighboring countries CMAs data dissemination services – CMA PCVSAT broadcast – CMA DVB-S broadcast – FENGYUNCast
8
CMA PCVSAT broadcast Operational since 2000 Bandwidth 2Mbps 256 logical channels typical channel rate 64Kbps Priority based broadcast: Emergency messages sent out immediately 2600 receiving stations, including 5 in neighboring countries: Pyongyang, Ulan Bator, Hanoi, Yangon, Dhaka Daily broadcasting data volume: 2.8Gbytes.
9
AsiaSat 2 (100.5E) C&Ku-band converage
11
CMA DVB-S broadcast Upgrading System for PCVSAT Same satellite and transponder Operational since April 2006 350 receiving stations Cheaper receiving system: DVB-S based Priority based broadcast: Emergency messages sent out immediately Total data rate: 8Mbps, daily broadcast data volume 25GB, + 2 MPEG-4 video streams New data service since 2007: Near real-time dissemination of FY-2C/D satellite images every 15 minutes to local weather centers
12
Data distributed over PCVSAT and DVB-S Observations SYNOP, TEMP, PILOT, SHIP, BATHY, BUOY, CLIMAT, CLIMAT TEMP, AIREP, AMDAR, TRACKOB, TESAC, WAVEOB, SATEM, SARAD, SATOB …… Warnings Model products Radar data and products Satellite data and products etc…… PCVSAT: 2.8GB/day DVB-S: 25GB/day
13
FENGYUNCast CMAs contribution to GEONETCast Provides an effective way to disseminate different kinds of satellites data in a unified platform. Advanced features: Near real-time data collection, Automatic data broadcasting, Centralized user information management, Cheap and industrial standardized user terminal, etc……
14
User Terminal: Receiving Station CMA DVB-S User Terminal Hardware Configuration
15
Asiasat-4 C-band EIRP Coverage Wider Coverage for Asia/pacific region Countries!
16
Data distributed over FENGYUNCast Satellite data and products –FY-2C, FY-2D –FY-1D –NOAA/AVHRR –MODIS(TERRA AUQA
17
130 FENGYUNCast receiving stations in China
18
FENGYUNCast receiving stations in 18 countries In 2006, 7 receiving stations –Bangladesh, Indonesia, Iran, Mongolia, Pakistan, Thailand, Peru In 2007, 11 receiving stations –DPRK, Kyrghyz, Lao P.D.R, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Viet Nam
19
Data exchange with EUMETCAST
20
Consolidation of broadcast systems An integrated broadcast catalogue containing both conventional and satellite data and products, supporting WIS data dissemination Transmission in both Ku and C band – Ku: smaller antenna dish – C: bigger footprint (better coverage outside China), and not affected by heavy rain Enhanced user management and support
