1 Welcome To Meeting #1 Relay For Life

2 Who We Are: Colleges Against Cancer Colleges Against Cancer (CAC) is a nationwide collaboration of students, faculty and staff dedicated to eliminating cancer by working to implement the programs and mission of the American Cancer Society. With hundreds of chapters nationwide, CAC is showing the world that young people care and want to make a difference. In other words… We want to help rid the world from cancer We get help from the American Cancer Society We’re in universities all over the country!

3 What does CAC do? 4 Quick Run Through of RELAY Registration begins at 4pm Opening ceremony at 6pm Walk around the track, participate in themed laps, fundraisers, games, and other activities HAVE MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF FUN Clean up, leave at 6 am

6 Where Does Your Money Go? 79 cents of every dollar raised goes to: – Research – Education – Advocacy – Patient Services

13 Let’s Start With… Attending Team Captains Meetings! – ATTEND ALL TEAM CAPTAINS MEETINGS – They are mandatory, and necessary for us to provide you with some vital information to make your team’s Relay experience the best it can be! – Dates: March 8, 2012: Team Captains Meeting #2 April 12, 2012: Team Captains Meeting #3 and Bank Night

14 Let’s Continue With… HOW TO GET PEOPLE TO JOIN YOUR TEAM. Ask: – Friends – Classmates Sheets with info. Write on the board. – Teammates – Floor-mates, suite-mates, house-mates Floor event? – Fraternity/Sorority brothers/sisters – Professors, TAs

15 But how do I ask them?? Tell them why you Relay! – Sharing a story will help you connect with people Let them know about Relay and what CAC’s mission is – The more info they have, the more likely they are to join the cause

16 Set Goals Set goals for yourself. – Raising $100 gets you an American Cancer Society T-shirt! Set goals for your team – Create small incentives for your team to fundraise – If you reach it, set the goal higher!

17 Individual Fundraising Ask family members and friends – A kind, personalized email or letter goes a long way. Ask your own and your parents’ co-workers – Parents may have coworkers that have been affected by cancer and want to donate. Social Networking-Facebook, Twitter, etc. – Post the website for people to donate or at least advertise Relay. You never know when someone may donate!
