Staff Trip to Africa – The Cameroon
3
Miss Bailey (SB), RB class teacher, showed the parents the website www.nickysfoundation.co.uk and explained the background of the foundation which was set up by Miss Bailey’s Auntie. Miss Bailey and Miss Grundy (KG) are leaving on August 15 th and are returning to the UK on 15 th October. Miss Bailey will be teaching in a school and also working in an orphanage. Miss Grundy will be teaching the children dance and concentrating more on dance and movement.www.nickysfoundation.co.uk Miss Bailey and Miss Grundy are holding a fundraising afternoon on Tuesday 14 th July after school. There will be a bake stall, tombola and raffle and children are encouraged to come to school in non-uniform in the colours of the Cameroon flag (red, green or yellow). All money raised will go directly to the Foundation. The trip to the Foundation has been funded directly by Miss Bailey and Miss Grundy. Miss Bailey told of an example of the work the foundation “A boy called Mohammed had broken his femur and it had set wrong and was causing him a lot of pain. Through the Foundation, Mohammed was able to have his treatment paid for in hospital where they re-broke his femur and set it correctly and he is now able to walk with the aid of a stick”. Miss Bailey and Miss Grundy have asked for parents to spread the word so that money can be raised to provide resources such as whiteboards, pens and paper, which is not something the children have at the moment. Parent Question: Will you be keeping a video diary? SB: I will deifintely be videoing and taking lots of pictures, however I may have to wait until I return to upload these as it is a very rural area and there is not a good signal for the internet. Also, as it is rainy season the tropical storms are contributing to the lack of signal. Parent Question: How many children will you be working with? KG: I will be spending more time in orphanages but as yet I don’t know exactly how many children. SB: I will probably working in schools and orphanages but I don’t know how many. I have been asked to show how we teach over here so I will be showing the teachers out there how we teach certain things here. I am taking the Phonics books with me and will be able to train the teachers how we teach. Miss Bailey will be receiving a list from her Auntie and will let parents know exactly what is needed soon. They are also looking for old prescription glasses, so any that are not being used will be gratefully received.

The School Garden Questionnaire
5
The gardening club have been working really hard over the last school year to improve the school garden and getting it back to its former glory. As a school we are putting in for a Lottery bid to receive funding for our garden, but we need the help of parents to secure it. We have asked parents to complete a questionnaire (which is available from the school office) which will help gather our parent’s views as to what you would like from the garden. We are also asking for ideas as to what you would like from the garden and how you would like to see it used in the future. Again, we are asking parents to spread the word around friends and family within school to drum up support for this bid!
