5
Curriculum Overview Jigsaw – in groups of 4 Each person reads one of the following sections from the curriculum guide and then shares it with the rest of the group: Models and Connections p.20 Teaching for Deep Understanding p. 21 Inquiry p. 23 Assessment and Evaluation p. 38
6
Curriculum Overview In your groups, match up the curriculum outcomes and indicators with the units in the resource. Once you have completed this, familiarize yourselves with the outcomes and indicators in Unit 2: Exponents and Powers.

The Lesson Model Assessment Focus Question – allows students to demonstrate their level of achievement Take it Further – extension questions Reflect – opportunity for students to communicate/summarize their understanding
16
Math Makes Sense Overview ProGuide Structure to Support Teachers: Before – Getting Started: Teachers should activate prior knowledge using the introduction to the lesson and key questions. Present the problem in the investigate and ensure expectations are clear. During – Investigate: Teachers should listen carefully, observe and assess, and ask questions to facilitate learning. After – Connect: Review responses from the reflect and share. Use the connect and examples to complete the lesson.
