6.1 Notes adolescence - the teenage years (11-18) when the human body starts to change hormones - chemical substance made by specific organs that control the way your body acts endocrine system - a system where organs and glands that control the way the body acts

6.1 Notes organs and glands in the endocrine system: –pituitary gland –testes (male) –ovaries (female) –pancreas –thyroid gland –adrenal gland –parathyroid gland Draw, label, and define each organ and glad of the endocrine system into your notes.

6.1 Notes puberty - a time during adolescence when the human body physically changes to the adult characteristics metabolism – the process by which the body gets energy from food

6.1 Notes Male changes during puberty: –Male hormones (chemicals) increase –Sudden, fast growth –No more baby teeth – now you have permanent teeth –Acne (pimples) –Armpit hair –Pubic hair –Perspiration (sweat) –Genitals (penis) get bigger –Muscles get bigger –Facial hair (hair on your face) grows –Voice gets deeper –Start to produce sperm –Wide shoulders

6.1 Notes Female changes during puberty: –Female hormone (chemical) increases –Sudden, fast growth –No more baby teeth – now you have permanent teeth –Acne (pimples) –Armpit hair –Pubic hair –Perspiration (sweat) –Breasts (boobs) develop –Wide hips –Body fat increases –Ovulation (ovaries start to create eggs) –Menstruation (period)

6.1 Notes 4 developments that happen in the body: 1.physical development – development that you can see 2.mental development – development that happens in the brain 3.emotional development – development that has to do with feelings 4.social development – develop the personality (able to interact with people)
