2 Canadian Supply Chain Food Safety Coalition Our Vision: Canada’s agriculture, fisheries and food industry will have a world-class reputation for producing and selling safe food.

3 Canadian Supply Chain Food Safety Coalition Our Mission: To facilitate, through dialogue within the food industry and with all levels of government, the development and implementation of a national, coordinated approach to food safety to ensure credibility in domestic and international marketplaces.

5 Priority #1 – Member Relations Continued Member support Financial stability

6 Priority #2 – Pandemic/Emergency Planning Set as a priority in 2006 – it has continued be one Coalition: Co-chairs the new Agri-food Network – covers all types of emergencies Participates in Private Sector Working Group on Pandemic Planning

7 Priority #3 – Government Recognition of Post-Farm Industry Programs Coalition continued to lobby for the establishment of the this program Status FPT discussions concluded CFIA internal discussions continued A roll-out plan has been developed Coalition expects to be asked to assist

8 Priority #4 – National Strategy Project Strategy Validated by web survey just after the 2009 annual meeting Published & circulated to members, media, officials and ministers in March Promoted to Ministers prior to their July meeting Used as a basis for the presentations to the House Subcommittee on Food Safety

9 Priority #5 – Government Relations A top priority Expanded contacts with officials, including the FPT committee chairs Participation in government consultations

10 Priority #6 – Issues Management (1) House of Commons Subcommittee on Food Safety US Food Safety Initiatives Global Food Safety Initiatives

11 Priority #6 – Issues Management (2) Canadian Initiatives – the Coalition was regularly consulted by federal departments and agencies: Canadian responses to WTO and OIE inquiries about private standards for food CFIA’s new research project on intentional contamination and food defense, CFIA’s new risk profiling initiative and various Health Canada initiatives.
