Long Term Goal To integrate the Teaching of Mathematics with 21st century teaching skills to enhance student’s appreciation of Mathematics.

Short Term Goals Integrating the simultaneous equations with daily life applications. Adopt better questioning strategies to promote critical thinking to diffrentiate between subtitution and elimination method promote critical thinking to diffrentiate between subtitution and elimination method Encouraging the group activity for the exchange of ideas and resources. exchange of ideas and resources. Enhancing the imagination of the students so that they can apply simultaneous equation in that they can apply simultaneous equation in their daily life. their daily life.

Applications of Blooms Taxonomy Remembering Concept of simultaneous equations Understanding Method of substitution Method of elimination Applying Solving simultaneous equations by applying substitution and elimination method. Application in daily life Analyzing Differentiating and comparing between elimination and substitution; integrating with daily life situations. Evaluating Students will describe technique which they find better. Class tests by teacher. Creating Students will design simultaneous equations for different daily life situations.

Timeline Simultaneous linear equations (Elimination method) Simultaneous linear equations (Substitution method) Word problems 3rd October – 14 th October 17 th October – 25 th October 26 th October – 31 st October

Strategy Topics: Simultaneous linear equations: a) By elimination method b) By substitution method c) Word problems Methodologies: Heuristic method (Question/Answer technique) Lecture method Inductive/deductive method Analytic/synthetic method

Simultaneous equation (Substitution method) 21 st century skills used ProblemsSolutions Question/ Answer technique, mental math, student participation Lack of basic knowledge (entirely a new concept) Revision of basic concepts, ELSC classes Group discussion, appreciation of new ideas Diverse group Use of different methodologies Multimedia presentations Shortage of time Use of multimedia

Class 8 Mathematics quiz Mathematics quiz is conducted on Fridays in which whole class is divided into three groups. A student from a team is invited to choose a question randomly from the basket.

The selected student solves the question on the board. For solving a question correctly in first attempt, the whole team is awarded with 5 points. For solving a question in second attempt they get 3 points and for 3rd attempt they get 1.5 points. By the quiz activity the students get the team spirit, self confidence, love for the subject, motivation for further study of subject, know about possible mistakes and methods of solving different problems. Every time students exhibit a lot of interest.

Conclusion By implementing 21st century skills I can help my students in exploring curricular topics and developing skills, such as communication, teamwork, and technology skills. In addition, students are motivated by the fun and creative format for the study of mathematics.

Acknowledgement I am thankful for the help and support of our administration for arranging Intel Program Getting Started Course for equipping the teachers with 21st century teaching skill. I would especially like to thank our Head- Mistress, Senior Mistress and the MTs for giving us this chance to excel.

Don’t train children to learning by force and harshness, but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of genius of each.
