2  Carl Jung was born July 26, 1875  He died June 6 th, 1961  Lived in Switzerland  Was a close friend of Sigmund Freud  Created theories on the conscious and unconscious mind  Is idolized for his dedication and contributions to the fields of psychology

3  His main field of research was the collective unconscious, a part of the psyche in which he believed all humans beings derived their thoughts from.  Studied the effects of the unconscious mind on dreams.  Theorized the Archetypes which are still debated among psychologists today.  Was known for his extensive research into the unconscious mind.

4  Was knocked unconscious at school at the age of 12 which caused him to faint anytime he was required to do anything school related. (This was later overcome upon hearing his dads concerns for his future.)  Was known for having lot’s and lot’s of affairs.  Formulated his own school of thought known as analytical psychology.

5  His research has lead to many breakthroughs in in psychotherapy and personality psychology.  Created the Archetypes theory which is still in use and studied among psychologists today.  His treatment of an Alcoholic patient led to the formation of the Alcoholics anonymous program.

6  The Ego A representation of the conscious mind.  The personal unconscious A storage center containing all memories including suppressed ones.  The Collective Unconscious Jung believed that the collective unconscious served as a form of “Psychological Inheritance” in that it contains all of the knowledge and experience we share as a species.

7  Carl Jung’s major theory and contribution were the Archetypes, a Set of generic personalities to which we are all subscribed to.  There are Four main archetypes outlined in his theories.

8 Represents the combination of the unconsciousness and the consciousness of a person, the self comes about by a process known as individuation where various types of personalities are integrated into the self.

9 Represents the instincts and natural desires of the body and is the darker side of the psyche containing repressed ideas, weaknesses, desires etc.

10 Representations of the male/female image of the psyche they represent our true self and act as the primary source of communication with the collective unconscious.

11 Represents how we present ourselves to others in the ways we act, it works as a shield for the ego from negative responses and allows us to hide our Shadow from others by making them perceive a different view of us.
