The capital building in West Virginia used to be linsey institute built in 1858. In 1877 Charleston was made the capital from governor Jacob. When they worked on the capital building in 1932 it was 10,0000 dollars to do it.

The delegates of the 40 western counties who opposed secession formed their own government, which was granted statehood in 1863.  In 1731 Morgan established the first permanent white settlement on Mill Creek in present-day Berkeley County. A mineral asset that would figure significantly in West Virginia's history, was discovered in 1742. Other important natural resources are oil, natural gas, and hardwood forests, which cover about 75% of the state's area.  The state's rapid industrial expansion began in the 1870s, drawing thousands of European immigrants and African Americans into the region. Miners strikes between 1912 and 1921 required the intervention of state and federal troops to stop the violence.  Today, the state ranks second in total coal production, with about 15% of the U.S. It is also a leader in steel, glass, and chemical manufactures. Major agricultural commodities are poultry and eggs, dairy products, and apples.  Tourism is increasingly popular in mountainous West Virginia. More than a million acres have been set aside in 37 state parks and recreation areas and in 9 state forests and 2 national forests. Major points of interest include Harpers Ferry and New River Gorge National River, The Greenbrier and Berkeley Springs resorts, the scenic railroad at Cass, and the historic homes in the Eastern Panhandle. Interesting facts slide  West Virginia is the only state created by carving without the state’s permission.  On October 24, 1861, in a public voters overwhelmingly supported the creation of the new state to be called Kanawha. The following month a convention at Wheeling changed the name to West Virginia. A hundred years later a Beckley newspaper suggested the name of the state be changed to either Kanawha or Lincoln because so many people believed West Virginia was the western part of Virginia, and not a separate state.  West Virginia has the highest average elevation of any eastern state of the Mississippi River and the most irregular boundary of any state.  West Virginias university was the first one to go on broadcast on the radio in 1921  On January 26, 1960, Danny Heater in west Virginia of Burnsville High School scored 135 points in a high school basketball game it earning him an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records.

8. Conclusion slide I thought that my state was very cool. I went there 2 times so I new a little bit about it already. I learned a lot of things that I did not know. And thought it wasn't going to be as cool as it really was. I thought it was going to be cool but just not this cool. West Virginia ROCKS!!!!!!!
