HISTORY OF ALIAGA AND LEGISLATIVE DEVELOPMENT 3

First company was established in 1974, In 1986, Ship Recyling Regulation was developed, In 1986, 650 000 tonnes of steel were recycled and Turkey became the third recycling country, by 2004 Turkey was at the fourth place and by 2010 at the fifth, Since mid 1980s, public attention and concerns increased regarding environment and working conditions in the area. After1990s, recyclers spent considerable efforts for improvements. In the late 1990s Ship Recyclers Association moved to Aliaga In 2004 Ship Recycling Legislation was revised. Hong Kong Convention and EU membership process will be next milestones both for legislation and Aliaga region. 4
