2 Possessive nouns are used to show ownership. Dad’s car is for sale!

3 The doctor’s coat is white. The word “doctor's" is the possessive noun. It tells you that the noun “coat" belongs to the doctor. The doctor owns, or possesses the coat. Add 's to the end of a singular noun to make it possessive.

4 The kite’s string got stuck in a tree. kite + 's The string belongs to the kite.

5 The children's costumes were cute. Add 's to the end of an irregular plural noun. children + 's The costumes belong to the children.

6 My brothers' names are Denny and Dan. brothers + ' If the noun ends in s or is a plural (more than one), you can just add an apostrophe '

7 Make a possessive noun in each sentence.

8 The nest of the bird was high in the tree. ANSWER

9 The bird’s nest was high in the tree.

10 The oven of the baker was hot. ANSWER

11 The baker’s oven was hot.

12 The house of Mrs. James was for sale. ANSWER

13 Mrs. James’ house was for sale.

14 The hamster of the girl got loose. ANSWER

15 The girl’s hamster got loose.

16 The trunk of the elephant was long. ANSWER

17 The elephant’s trunk was long.

18 The report card of my daughter was great! ANSWER

19 My daughter’s report card was great!

20 The wings of the fairies were fluttering. ANSWER

21 The fairies’ wings were fluttering.

22 Please don’t eat the pie of grandpa. ANSWER

23 Please don’t eat grandpa’s pie.

24 The hair of Kelly was very pretty. ANSWER
